Murambi: Faces

Title

Murambi: Faces

Description

Murambi's preservation methods cements the final moments of many victims. Visitors who enter the rooms can go walk up to the bodies. Many victims were found holding their hands over their heads, protecting their faces from machete blows. Preservation of these types of details constitute what scholar Susan Cook call a "freezing" of history. While one of the memorial's mission is education, such images may also traumatize the visitor.
